It seems COVID-19 had a positive outcome, at least for the cruise industry. Recognising our new found desire for more flexible work arrangements, a small number of select cruise lines have truly taken advantage of this situation.

Introducing your new way to have it all; work at sea.

No, they're not inviting you to become crew or join their onboard team. They're offering the ideal work space, an office with a view, combined with strong and reliable internet connection thanks to the rollout of Starlink across many fleets.

Azamara offer small ship, relaxed luxury combined with slowed down itineraries to enhance your immersive cultural experiences in each destination. They were the first to market the Work at Sea concept, aptly named "Work and Wander".

Available on select itineraries, these include high bandwith WiFi for two devices. Theu offer equipment such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse and adapter and an exclusive networking event

In true Virgin style, the Branson led Virgin Voyages marketing team have executed an invigorated campaign, offering you a Season Pass to WFH - Work from Helm. Together with access to Richard's Rooftop for the opportunity to be rewarded for your four week, onboard commitment, and a wonderful opportunity to network with suite guests and potential future clients.

You'll kick off your month in the Med with a free bottle of champagne (don't forget to shake), receive coffee credit for your daily latte from the Grounds Club cafe, free laundry, a dedicated Concierge pre-voyage and onboard and early access to reservations.

Now that's a well considered, and truly enticing offer !

I would gladly volunteer to trial Virgin Voyages WFH in the Med concept, and it's made me think about what other cruises and lines would make ideal work/life balance "home" offices.

Here's what I've decided;

A World Cruise - plenty of sea days, plenty of opportunity to explore, invigorate and excercise on and off the ship.

Transatlantic or South Pacific relocation sailings. The number of sea days without picturesque distractions is enticing.

Circumnavigate Australia voyages

You can stay close to the coastline,

visit friends, family or even clients as you travel around the country.

The concept definitely has its merits.

Whilst relatively new, it's thanks to ongoing technological advances onboard and creativity by the lines that this is bound to become a whole new travel trend in its own right. So sign me up !!
